CAL FIRE’s California Forest Improvement Program

This cost-share program offers assistance to private and public ownerships containing 20 to 5,000 acres of forest land. The purpose of the California Forest Improvement Program (CFIP) is to encourage private and public investment in, and improved management of, California forest lands and resources. Cost-share activities include preparation of a forest management plan by a registered professional forester (RPF), reforestation, stand improvement, and forestland conservation practices / fish and wildlife habitat improvement.

Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) Programs:

Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP)

This cost-share program provides technical and financial assistance to private forest landowners who want to integrate conservation into working lands. There is no minimum acreage to apply for this program.

Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP)

The Building Fire Resiliency in CA Coast Range RCPP Project is a conservation partnership that can provide financial and technical assistance to eligible agricultural producers and landowners to implement land management practices that will minimize wildfire impacts on human life and property in the wildland-urban interface (WUI), restore natural fire regime patterns in undeveloped areas, and improve resource conditions following recent wildfires.

NCRP’s Forest Health Pilot Grant Program

With funding from CAL FIRE, NCRP’s Forest Health Pilot grant program supports restoration and reforestation activities that significantly increase the resiliency of forests in the North Coast while also mitigating climate change, protecting communities from fire risk, strengthening rural economies, and improving water and air quality. Private landowners interested in this opportunity should partner with an eligible organization to apply.

The Sonoma County Vegetation Management Grant ProgramThe Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District’s program provides resources and grant funding for vegetation management projects that benefit communities at high-risk of wildfire. Funded projects include implementing shaded fuel breaks, increasing grazing and calming zones, the use of prescribed fire and the development of educational and technical tools – all of which are designed to slow or prevent the spread of wildfire in our community. Private landowners interested in this opportunity should partner with an eligible organization to apply.

Blue Forest’s Forest Resilience Bond (FRB)

The Forest Resilience Bond (FRB) was developed in partnership with the World Resources Institute (WRI), the USDA Forest Service, and the National Forest Foundation (NFF). This public-private partnership uses private capital to ease cash flow constraints and allows multiple groups to share the costs of forest restoration.
