Please join us Thursday, December 14, 10am-12pm
on Zoom for the monthly meeting of the Sonoma County Forest Conservation Working Group. This month, we will hear a presentation from Project Manager William Hart of Gold Ridge Resource Conservation District about the LandSmart® Grazing for Community Resiliency Program.
LandSmart Grazing is a new incentives program run by a partnership between Gold Ridge and Sonoma RCDs, Match.Graze and the County of Sonoma that connects private and public land managers with local contract grazers at low cost. Targeted grazing reduces vegetative fuel load and wildfire risk in fire prone environments. Grazing has co-benefits: low impacts to air quality and noise; ease of access near structures and on steep slopes; natural fertilization; and if timed right, control of noxious weeds. Grazing may also be an economical option for sites with difficult access, and in some cases may require less permitting than other fuel treatments. William Hart will provide a reflection on the program’s first three years in operation and a look ahead. Q&A to follow.
