Description
This month, we’ll learn about the Sonoma County Wildfire Resilience Planner Tool.
Sonoma County Wildfire Resilience Planner Tool: Shared Decision Support for Planning and Prioritizing
The Sonoma County Wildfire Resilience Planner combines best available science and spatial data with guidance from County and State experts to build a planning and prioritization tool to identify locations where the reduction of fuels will best protect lives and property, critical infrastructure, ecosystem services and biodiversity. The tool was built to provide one shared, countywide integrated and compatible decision support tool to prioritize and coordinate vegetation management efforts for strategic wildfire risk reduction. The Wildfire Resilience Planner development is co-led by Sonoma Water and UCCE through partnership and collaboration with County and other partners including Permit Sonoma, Ag + Open Space, County Climate Action & Resiliency Division, Pepperwood, and Tukman Geospatial. Sonoma Water’s contractor, Conservation Biology Institute, is a national leader in developing custom decision support tools. The Sonoma County Wildfire Fuel Mapper and the Sonoma County Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) has now been integrated into the Wildfire Resilience Planner and has been specifically designed for use to support a wide variety of existing efforts including the County’s Vegetation Management Grant Program, Sonoma Water’s Climate Adaptation Plan, County’s CWPP, County’s Hazardous Fuel Reduction Project, and to align with many other regional and state initiatives. This presentation will introduce the tool, its applications, and its service and integration into other Sonoma County programs, regional and state initiatives. It will also demo the tool through a few use scenarios. The team welcomes feedback from Forest Working Group members. Presented by: Susan Haydon, Project Specialist for Sonoma Water, and Deanne DiPietro, Senior Science Coordinator for Conservation Biology Institute. Learn more about the tool in the attached 1-pager.
